My work is crafted using stain markers, paint pens, and found wood. I prefer weathered found wood because it packages the work with mystery while at the same time embraces the reduce/reuse/recycle practice I support. When I look at a piece of wood, I compare it to looking at a vast sky or landscape. The knots are the clouds and the grains are the plains. When I create a wood spirit, I draw from the inside out. Though I work quite deliberately, consciously employing both traditional and innovative techniques, my unconscious is the undisputed project manager. The spirits are conjured and this once dead and forgotten slab of wood is given new life. Inspired and invigorated by a renewed sense of wonder and awed by the mystery of how creation occurs, I am still in search of what is yet to be discovered.
