Tien’s professional and personal philosophy is to be in complete joy & positivity, being fully present at all times enjoying the creation of his masterpieces.
Tien has been creating as a silversmith for 15 years. He has grown his craft over the years & now has 11 lines in his collection. Tien’s unique jewellery ranges from minimalist sterling silver lines, to exquisitely elegant gemstones in cameo settings, to unusual stone settings, using rare gemstones from around the world.
Tien has lived a varied and interesting artistic life, both in his homeland of Singapore & now in Vancouver, Canada. His interdisciplinary artistic repertoire ranges from painting, sculpting, photography, performance art, dance, video & interior design. His love for contemporary art & design brought Tien initially to Canada, where he attained his Bachelor of Fine & Performing Arts degree, his Certificate of Interior Design, & his Certificate in Classical Feng Shui (the ancient Chinese practice of aesthetics and arranging living spaces / environments to promote health, happiness, love, and wealth).
Tien undertook his first silversmithing course in 1996. It was then that he realized he had discovered his life’s passion and subsequent true vehicle for his creative expression.  As he fine-tuned his craftsmanship, Tien, in turn, honed the practice of becoming one with this living metal. It is through this alchemical medium, that Tien expresses his passion for beauty, joy & love.
Tien’s work is crafted to the highest quality. Each piece is cut, hammered, soldered, filed & finished by hand. Because Tien is joyful while at work, this happiness is transmitted into the silver & together with the healing powers of the gemstones, is passed lovingly onto his clients. Tien is conscious of passing on only positive feelings to others through his art. This sharing of personal expression makes his art unique.
Tien believes that whatever we touch, takes on our essence. And especially with a highly conductive metal like silver, he feels that all of his energy and essence is passed into this alchemical metal. When he works, Tien becomes one with his work and often experiences a sense of “floating” in a meditative state. Tien sings, hums & laughs aloud while he works, always channeling the positive. This unique style of creation ensures that the artwork is not just expertly crafted; it is also intended to pass onto his clients only positive, happy feelings.
Tien has many influences; from his appreciation for Buddhism, to earth science & energy, mystical spirituality, romantic mythology, art history & joyful living. His personal interests, natural skill, & education in the area of Fine Art & Design, informs his work. Tien’s jewellery pieces are more than aesthetically pleasing wearable objects. Wearing Tien’s art is akin to inviting the Universe’s wonderful energies into one’s life. It supports those who wear it, reminds them that they are cherished & powerful, allows them to create their own happiness, and fills them with love & joy.
This is the handiwork of not only of a gifted creative and visual artist, but a soulful one. Tien’s art is simple in design, accessible, attractive, and exquisite, and possesses the energetic power to create impact.
Tien produces his art out of the Beaumont Studios, Vancouver, BC. He divides his time between Vancouver, & the Sunshine Coast.
